MOVE HUMAN- Dorfman Technique and Repertory with Carolyn Dorfman and Company members Master class in Contemporary Modern Dance taught by Carolyn Dorfman and company members. With an emphasis on center-driven movement, nuanced weight transfer, breath phrasing, intention, focus and performance, this contemporary modern class expands the dancers’ technical, dramatic and artistic range. Dorfman believes artistry is built on specificity and detail. With DEPTH (Dance that Empowers People To be more Human), Dorfman’s classes explore the essence of solo and ensemble performance; the individual existing in relation and “staying human while dancing”. Technique class includes phrases from the company’s broad range of repertory.

From the beginning of time, individuals and communities have defined themselves and their worlds through movement and Dance. From the stage to the street, we observe and come to understand others. In doing and creating, we come to understand ourselves and each other. As in all my work, Dance and the ensemble become a powerful visual metaphor for life and community.” Carolyn Dorfman Led by master artist/teacher Carolyn Dorfman (Carolyn Dorfman Dance) and Louie Marin-Howard, former Principal Dancer with Carolyn Dorfman Dance and now the Executive Director of The Pop-up Project, this professional development workshop will guide dance educators through this highly acclaimed curriculum that explores the expression of contemporary life, heritage and stories through movement and Dance. A cornerstone of CDD’s DEPTH programming- Dance that Empowers People To be more Human, Speaking Through Dance is a dynamic and integrated approach involving the doing, making, viewing and understanding of dance and its elements.

Founded in 1998, Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts is a unique, dedicated fine arts magnet school promoting academic and artistic excellence for students in grades six through twelve. Part of the Hamilton County School System, CCA serves over 600 students in the fine arts concentration of their choice. The college preparatory academic emphasis of the school is propelled by a commitment to the arts as a vehicle to foster creativity, cultivate discipline, and build ensemble.
